Espresso Fundamentals: Honey, Washed & Natural – Three Processing Methods in Direct Comparison
What does processing do to the taste? This set gives you the answer, straight in the cup. Three espresso roasts, three fundamental processing methods: Honey, washed and Natural. Same preparation, completely different profiles. You taste how strongly processing shapes a coffee, from the clarity of a washed coffee through the balance of a Honey to the full chocolate of a Natural. Free shipping throughout Germany.
What's inside?
Honey Castillo – From Finca Bellavista, Colombia. In the Honey Process, part of the fruit pulp stays on the bean, which gives the coffee its honey sweetness and soft texture. As an espresso: round and accessible.
Bellavista Espresso – Castillo by Alejandro Gil, Finca Bellavista in Caldas, 1,300 m. Classically washed: clean, clear, with cocoa and orange. The reference point in the set, the baseline you measure the other two against.
Brasil Blend – Natural from Cerrado Mogiana, Brazil. The cherries dry with the fruit pulp still on, which brings body, chocolate and low acidity. The most classic espresso in the set.
Who is this set for?
For anyone who wants to understand what processing means, not as theory but in the cup. Ideal as an entry point into specialty coffee or for a cupping with friends. All three are roasted as espresso and work both on their own and in milk drinks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which coffees are included in the Espresso Fundamentals Trio?
The set contains three espresso roasts, 250 g each, showing three fundamental processing methods: Honey Castillo (Honey Process, Finca Bellavista, Caldas), Bellavista Espresso (washed, Finca Bellavista, Caldas) and Brasil Blend (Natural, Cerrado Mogiana, Brazil).
What is the difference between Honey, Washed and Natural?
The three methods differ in how much fruit pulp stays on the bean during processing. In the washed process (Bellavista Espresso) all of the fruit pulp is removed before drying, which gives a clear, clean cup. In the Honey process (Honey Castillo) part of the sugary fruit pulp stays on the bean, which gives more sweetness and a softer texture. In the Natural (Brasil Blend) the whole cherry dries with the fruit pulp still on, which brings the most body and the strongest chocolate notes. Same preparation, three different profiles.
How do the three coffees differ in taste?
Honey Castillo is sweet and round, with honey and tangerine. Bellavista Espresso is clear and balanced, with cocoa and orange, the reference point in the set. Brasil Blend is full-bodied and nutty, with chocolate and low acidity. Honey Castillo and Bellavista Espresso both come from Finca Bellavista (Alejandro Gil, Caldas); the Brasil Blend comes from Cerrado Mogiana in Brazil.
Are these coffees only suitable for espresso?
All three coffees are designed as espresso roasts and work on their own in a portafilter as well as in milk drinks like a Flat White or Cappuccino. Honey Castillo is an omni roast and can also be brewed as a filter coffee. Bellavista Espresso and Brasil Blend are built for espresso.
Is the set suitable as a gift or as a starting point?
Yes. Three processing methods in direct comparison make the set a good entry into specialty coffee and a cupping experience at home. Ideal as a gift, or to taste the difference between Honey, Washed and Natural with friends. Shipping within Germany is free.
